<<< all'alba >>>

On All'Alba (Justin Time) Quebec's François Carrier Trio are joined by pianist Uri Caine for some edgy, collective improvisation. Caine is one of the jazz avant garde's most exciting, adventurous players, and Carrier's rhythm team of bassist Pierre Côté and drumer Michel Lambert are up to the task of supporting his explorations with fireworks of their own. Carrier's alto sax never dominates. His contributions are equally radical, but he lays his noise expertly into the mix. Although light years from New Orleans' seminal, collective blowing, that's where Carrier and company's modernisms were spawned. Difficult and demanding, All'Alba is earphone candy that is ultimately worth the effort. The musicians' breathtakingly intuitive approach is amazing.
