Montreal alto saxophonist François Carrier comes up a winner once again
- his previous album was a Juno laureate - on this collaboration with
the brillant pianist Uri Caine. Carrier's sound owes a lot to Coltrane,
and he chooses his notes sparingly, having the good sense to allow all
of his musicians as much space as they need to develop their ideas. The
nine pieces (seven compositions and two improvisations) unfold organiclly.
A particular delight is the work of bassist Pierre Côté and drummer Michel
Lambert - perfect mates for Carrier, who revels in the spontaneous exploration
of the musical soul.
